She began her career in the 1970s as proprietor of her own boutique. These were times of liberated women discovering their own sense of individuality and style. The demand was for alternative pieces that still maintained a sense of lavish and uncompromised quality. Mariana found her inspiration in vintage pieces from the Victorian and Edwardian periods through to the 1920s. She sourced her beautiful antique silks and lace on various trips to Europe. The response was immediate and in 1982 the Mariana Hardwick label was launched!
